Campaign 'Geef je banden lucht'
16 November '18
Those who drive on insufficiently inflated tyres drive less safely, use more fuel, make more noise and damage the environment. Reasons enough to give your tyres air every two months. Nevertheless, about 60 percent of the Dutch people drive around with tyres that are too weakly inflated.
That is why this week the campaign 'Geef je banden lucht’ started, to inform motorists with radio spots and information at the gas station on the benefits of a freshly inflated tyre.
How do I contribute to CO2 reduction?
State Secretary Stientje Van Veldhoven (IenW): "I often hear people say: Yes, but what can I contribute to a cleaner Netherlands?" Well, this! Keep your tyres on tension. Safe for you, good for your wallet and it also contributes to achieving our climate goals. If all cars were to drive with the right tyre pressure, we would save around 0.4 Megatons of CO2 emissions per year. This is comparable with the annual emissions of all households in the municipality of Groningen. "
Check every two months
Half of all Dutch people check their tyre pressure less than 3 times a year, while every two months is recommended. 42 percent know that tyre pressure can best be measured when the tyres are cold, but 20 percent think wrongly that this is best when the tyres are warm.
About the campaign
The campaign 'Geef je banden lucht’ is an initiative of various parties such as the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, VACO, RAI Association, ANWB, BOVAG, RECYBEM, Tyre on Tension, Milieu Centraal and VNA change the behavior of the motorist. The ambition is that every motorist checks the tyres of the car every two months for damage and brings them to the right tension. After all, you drive safer, more economical, quieter and cleaner.
